Mega taps into the parts of herself that will never change with “Roots”

Date:

North London singer and songwriter Mega is undeniably establishing a reputation as a voice of resilience and hope. Over the years, she has released music that symbolizes who she is and what she has gone through, resulting in songs that are relatable, powerful, and inspirational. She incorporates her past through the soulful elements we hear, which comes from the gospel choirs she participated in during her youth. She also includes African rhythms, representing her Ugandan heritage. Another important element of Mega’s songs is the truth that she speaks in them, which was fostered at a time when she was recovering from a mysterious vocal condition that prevented her from singing for two years.

During that time, she completed her work as a PhD student and earned a degree in Psychology. When she regained the ability to sing, she also regained a new purpose, which led to the music we hear from her today. Projects like Future Me, Colour Your World and Honour and Glory trace her journey of healing and finding strength. They have also earned praise from The Line of Best Fit, CLASH, and more. In September, Mega will be releasing I Am Enough, which continues to tell her transformative journey. Each song will represent a different chapter in that journey, and the chapter she shares with us today focuses on inner strength.

On “Roots,” Mega taps into the parts of herself that will never fall apart when times get tough. With radiant vocals, she sings, “Everyone feels afraid / Everyone loses faith / You’ll never fall from grace / How could you?” She goes on to conclude, “When all the love you need / Was always there underneath / Nobody can take away / What’s in my roots.” She encourages those who listen to fully believe in themselves. We all have the tools we need to get through the obstacles we face, and this soulful, gospel-inspired anthem is a reminder to use them.
