New York City-based Meg Smith has shared “God Damn Baby,” the third single off her recently announced sophomore album, DISCO DYSTOPIA, scheduled for release on November 7. The dance-pop track is an unapologetic anthem to anyone who has moved on from a relationship without resentment.
On “God Damn Baby,” the singer-songwriter shines by combining the catchy hooks she is known for with heavy synthesizers that belong in a classic late 2000s pop hit. The autotuned verses reminiscent of Kesha lead to a euphoric, explosive chorus filled with melodies that will immediately be stuck in your head.
While discussing the inspiration behind the song, Smith says that “God Damn Baby” is not “a song about not needing revenge. We each have to live with our decisions and mistakes. So at the end of the night, I sleep like a god damn baby.” In the chorus, she playfully brags about her clear conscience: “You try but can’t escape me / I sleep like a god damn baby / It’s not my fault that karma made you an insomniac.”
The new single is preceded by “Dive Bar Opera” and “Girls Just Wanna Be Famous,” which will also be included on DISCO DYSTOPIA. Smith is hitting the road this fall as the opening act for Molly Grace on her Blush tour.
