It’s no secret that the pop girlies have been dominating 2025. Enter: Australian singer-songwriter Jess Ball, whose recent release, “Please Don’t Hate Me For This,” is a fearless confession encased in lively melodies. Its vibrant energy masks the raw tension shimmering beneath its catchy surface. The single reveals the uncomfortable reality of acknowledging emotions that might hurt someone close to you. Emotions are like a simmering storm — if kept locked away too long, they’re bound to spill over, leaving the pieces behind. Ball shares:
“I wrote this song about those moments when we say things we don’t truly mean – words that spill out in the heat of anger after holding too much in for too long. It’s about the buildup of unspoken frustrations and emotions that eventually erupt, often hurting the people closest to us. At its core, the song is an apology to those who’ve borne the weight of my outbursts during times of burnout and overstimulation. My reactions are not a reflection of them, but rather of my own struggle to confront issues as they arise – instead of letting them linger and grow into random, heated outbursts.”
Before Ball launched her career as a solo artist, she dabbled in EDM as a featured vocalist for multiple artists. Her collaboration with EDX, “I Found You (Neptune),” went No.1 on the Future House Beatport charts and reached No.38 on SiriusXM’s Electro top songs of the year. Fast forward to now, Ball has kicked off an impressive solo start with her debut EP, Where You Go, allowing the singer-songwriter to show off her songwriting talents. She draws inspiration from Olivia Dean, who is just beginning to shine in the spotlight, perhaps signaling that Ball is poised to have her own moment next.
