Meels releases “Vultures” from upcoming EP, ‘Across the Raccoon Strait’

Date:

As Amelia Einhorn, better known as Meels, was busy crafting her sound in her younger years, she discovered the beauty of the guitar and banjo. The gifted singer-songwriter naturally started to incorporate them into her music, and they now serve as the backbone to her unique indie folk songs. After studying Recorded Music at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute, Meels defined her sound as “Critter Country,” consisting of folk, country, and bluegrass. In the end, she creates songs that are nostalgic and honest, such as those heard on her 2024 debut EP, Tales from a Bird’s Bedroom. Critics from Earmilk and Urbanista Magazine praised the project, propelling Meels further into the spotlight. Such praise led to a recent signing with Nashville’s Lost Highway Records, which will release her sophomore EP, Across the Raccoon Strait, on January 30.

For now, Meels gives us the EP’s third single, “Vultures.” It captures Meels’s “Critter Country” sound, as it features forward-moving guitar strums and string work. All the while, her sweet vocals give the song a cozy charm, even against lines like, “Vultures on the fencepost, roadkill on the centerline” and “I’m awful sorry for the fly that I hit on the 5.” Whether she’s “too busy building bridges” or “too dizzy from this wine,” she will essentially stop at nothing “till I make you mine.” You can check it out below.

Meels shares about the signing,

“Lost Highway has a legacy that means so much to me, both as a listener and a songwriter. I’m incredibly thankful to be working with such a dedicated team and to release music through the same label that once carried so many of my idols.”

Lost Highway’s executive vice presidents and co-heads Robert Knotts and Jake Gear also share,

“At the heart of her artistry, Meels paints a vivid picture with her music through a lens that simultaneously feels familiar yet uniquely her own. With her upcoming project, ‘Across the Raccoon Strait,’ she invites the listener into a world she has created that feels lived in and at home, and we are excited to help build upon that world and her vision together.”

“Vultures” follows “The Wizard” and “Willow Song,” which will also be featured on Across the Raccoon Strait. You can listen to “Vultures” here.

In February and March, Meels will headline three shows across the U.S. The first will be in Nashville at Station Inn on February 17, followed be a show at Brooklyn’s Skinny Dennis on February 22. The last show is in her hometown of Mill Valley at Sweetwater Music Hall on March 10. Along the way, she will open for Margo Price before heading out with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on their ‘All the Good Times: The Farewell Tour’ in April. Tickets and more information can be found here.
