Inspiration can be found all around you, and Lucy Kitchen definitely knows where to find it. The British folk singer-songwriter pulls from poets, nature, the changing seasons, and the artistic process of transformation, tying these themes together in her music. The result is albums like her 2014 debut, Waking; its 2017 follow-up, Sun to My Moon; her 2023 EP, The Stabal Sessions; and her recent single “Red Skies.” Over the years, Lucy has earned support from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1, Amazing Radio USA, and Radio X, as her versatile and emotive sound makes for captivating moments that listeners simply need to experience. There is much planned for Lucy in the future, including a UK and EU tour, a new album, and the release of her first poetry collection. For now, though, she gives us a new single “In My Corner.”

A moving and empowering reflection on grief, “In My Corner” is an alt-folk single that features warm strumming and Lucy’s earthy yet graceful vocals. The track touches on the loss of Lucy’s husband to cancer and her determination to continue living life without him by her side. She sings, “I’m not gonna play small / I’m ready to risk it all / I want shooting stars that glitter on the snowfall / Champagne and disco balls / ‘Cause baby, I’m trying to be stronger / Trying to live how we talked about.” You can check it out in the lyric video below.

Elaborating on the conversations she had with her late husband, Lucy shares,

“We used to sit up and have these big life/death chats, as we knew he didn’t have long to live at a certain point. I remember one night having a really big one about what I was going to do and me chucking out all these slightly crazy ideas, and him just saying that he wanted me to really live my life and do whatever I wanted. A lot of this song comes out of that, and has become one of my favorite tracks on the album.”
