The alternative pop-rock band from Milwaukee, Lake Drive, delivers their newest EP, Post-Internet Romance. Their music is often characterized by its emotional depth with themes of love and self-discovery, and that’s no different for this new project. The project shows a versatile range that incorporates elements of indie and rock.
Starting off strong with “Plus One,” vocalist Rayven Burdette delivers a passionate performance with instrumentation from Brandon Detaege, Trevor Gallagher, and Adam Secord. “Ur So Funny” continues the momentum of vibrant vocals over energetic rhythms. The track explores how some people take pride in making others look like a joke. “Ur so funny / You got the whole gang laughing now / Got everybody thinking I’m the clown / Ur so funny / Go ahead and take a bow”
“Overrated” is a standout track on the EP, as it explores the idea that someone who seems so perfect on the outside can actually just be overrated and overhyped. “I’m so scared of girls like you / Pretty faces, red tattoos / I’m so scared of what I’ll lose / But your love your love your love is overrated.” Radio ready track, “It’s Gonna Rain”, delivers another sing-along hook that delivers a punch. “I thought we could pretend / That we could still be friends / But I’m holding onto this / The first night that we shared a kiss / It’s gonna rain, its gonna rain on me.”
Closing out the EP is “Fragile” and “Best Part”, two tracks that could not be more opposite sonically. “Fragile” leans in to the electro-pop space, where as “Best Part” is a seamless fusion of pop and rock.
