Laci Kaye Booth contemplates life on “Luck of the Draw”

Date:

Last year, Laci Kaye Booth was a self-proclaimed recluse on her debut album, The Loneliest Girl in the World. This year, she manages to be the farthest away from being lonely. The project did well to impress tastemakers like Billboard, Atwood Magazine, and Country Now, as well as the likes of Lana Del Rey, who used one of the track’s songs “Damn Good in a Dive Bar” in a post on Instagram. Laci’s recent singles have also been receiving much praise, with “Daddy’s Mugshot” being featured in an edit for Laci’s collab with California-based fashion brand Lulus and “George F****** Strait” amassing more than half a million streams across combined platforms. Laci made her Grand Ole Opry debut in March and has been on tour ever since. She will continue to tour in the fall, where she might play her latest single “Luck of the Draw.”

Written with Ryman Wooten and Ben West (Stephen Wilson Jr., Patrick Droney), who also produced The Loneliest Girl in the World, “Luck of the Draw” is a contemplation on life experience. Sometimes, things don’t play out the way they should, but such is life. Over gentle percussion and twangy guitars, Laci observes, “Everybody’s dying and the sky is on fire / Who messed it up, who the hell’s holding the cards? / Losing my faith, is nothing sacred? / I ain’t being bitter baby, I’m just saying / You could blame me or blame it on the luck of the draw / I’ll blame it on the luck of the draw.” You can check it out in the video below, which was directed by Natalie Sakstrup, who also directed the video for “George F****** Strait.”

About the single, Laci shares,

“‘Luck of the Draw’ is about growing up in the chaos, finding beauty in the wreckage, and owning the hand you’re dealt.”

Next month, Laci will support Lukas Nelson for his three shows at The Paramount Theatre in Austin, along with his show at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas. She will then perform at Country Calling and at the Grand Ole Opry House for its 100th birthday show in early October before supporting Parker McCollum, The Marcus King Band, and Ella Langley on the road across the US.
