Pamela Valfer, better known by her stage name, Kitty Craft, is no stranger to the indie music scene. Debuting in 1998 with her fan-favorite album Beats and Breaks from the Flower Patch, Valfer returned to charm the indie music scene after a 20-year gap between her 2000 album Catskills and her 2020 album Lost Tapes. She has released a handful of projects since Lost Tapes, each more decadent and cozy than the last, with her newest EP being no exception.
In February of this year, she release a follow-up to her debut album entitled Bits and Bobs from the Flower Patch, Vol. I. Now, she’s back with the second follow-up: Bits + Bobs from the Flower Patch Vol II.
The best way to describe listening to Kitty Craft is that it’s like listening to a well-loved scrapbook. Numerous unique elements are carefully crafted and seamlessly strung together in a captivating manner. Valfer’s sound often blends elements of electronica, using elegant sample splicing techniques and layered sound effects, all tied together with her signature subdued, delicate vocals that truly elevate her sound every time.
For example, the track “Down in Flames” includes a descending twinkling sound effect throughout. Valfer wonderfully incorporates it as a central element of the song, creating a lovely element of whimsy without the effect feeling out of place. In the track “Small Exclusions and Small Intrusions,” we even get to hear some dainty acoustic guitar plucking and strumming, which is always a treat.
All of these elements complement each other in such a unique way. Valfer’s tracks can put any listener at ease with harmonies reminiscent of a silky daydream wrapped in a cozy blanket.
Kitty Craft is heading off on her first East Coast tour this fall. If you want to hear this EP live, tickets are available here.
