The growing up process is easier said than done. It’s something that kids can’t wait to experience, but when it unfolds, it’s not as great as once believed. Thank goodness we have Jonah Kagen, however, to make it easier. The singer and songwriter has dished out projects like his debut EP, georgia got colder, and recent single “18” to better explore what it means to really grow up and see things in a new way. In doing so, he connects with others who are also growing up and figuring out the world, which comes across on his new single “The Roads.”
On “The Roads,” Jonah searches for meaning from his past while looking towards the future, getting older and wiser every step of the way. As he trots along this path, he reflects to the intimate sounds of an acoustic guitar, pondering where he is headed. The track then morphs into a vibrant folk-rock production, complete with hand claps, electric guitar, and strings. Atop such warm layers of music, Jonah sings, “I’ve done all I can do / But I chose to let you in / Now the roads lead back to you.” You can check it out in the video below, which was filmed at the Cotswolds in Southern England.
About “The Roads,” Jonah explains,
“‘The Roads’ is one of those songs I feel like I’ve been working toward for so long. It’s the culmination of so much heartbreak, so much growing up, and so much learning. Some of my favorite lyrics and sounds I’ve ever created are in this song, and I think the story speaks for itself – I hope you can feel the years of emotion and human experience pouring out in it.”
