Jason Vitelli’s work continues to push boundaries as he creates yet more cinematic experiences in a brand new video to accompany “The Veil.”
Described as “cinematic rock music with a vision,” the visuals in this video paint a picture of avant-garde noir. It would be unavoidable to mention the Pink Floyd-esque visuals, with fluorescent swirls, strobe effects, and pyramidal lights.
There is a shifting between the piano notes and the larger instrumental backdrop, married together in the film as one transcends through space and time into a larger continuum of everything that is held beyond the veil. The figure of a lone man morphs as he floats through space.
Vitelli says:
“The reason that we love film and art is that they bring us out of ourselves, show us someone else’s reality, and in doing so, allow us to understand ourselves more through the process … it is my goal to help people open their eyes to a broader horizon. As hard as life can be, grace and compassion will always keep our heads above the rising tide.”
“The Veil” is a captivating journey inspired by the allure of Salome’s Dance of the Seven Veils; piano chords gradually build with a four-on-the-floor beat providing a solid backdrop to this soundscape with cello ostinato. Instrumental is provided by cello, viola, piano, electric guitar, and percussion.
Vitelli’s intent to use art and film to broaden horizons allows the viewer the possibility to step into someone else’s reality and, in turn, try to understand themselves more deeply. “The Veil” exemplifies this vision, and offers more than just a musical experience but a deeper exploration of grace, compassion, and the human experience.
A lot of Vitelli’s writing is influenced by the experimental rock of the late 1970s, with influences such as Bowie, Kate Bush, Oliver Messiaen, and James Joyce. There is a boldness and excitement, which is captured in each slide of the video.
