Jake Thistle has released a new indie alternative song, “The City Whispers,” in collaboration with acclaimed songwriter and guitarist Butch Walker.
Thistle said the track is inspired by his memories of growing up in the shadow and glow of New York City. He recalled being fascinated by the vibrance of the city at night, and described the song as representing both the comfort and discomfort that come with the distractions of city lights.
He also shared that working with Walker helped him sharpen his musical sensibility and grow creatively. Walker shares his excitement for this track, saying that when Thistle first brought the idea to him, the concept and theme resonated deeply with him:
“It just gives me a beautiful, vivid snapshot of him being in that moment when he wrote the initial verse lyric. I love when an artist isn’t afraid to tell stories with vivid imagery. It’s my favorite kind of songwriting.”
Thistle, a New Jersey native, aims to blend classic ’60s and ’70s soft rock with modern pop undertones. He recently wrapped an East Coast tour supporting Fantastic Cat and has been recognized by Indie Boulevard with multiple honors. The Boston Herald also named him a rising music star.
Though this marks his first collaboration with Walker, Thistle has worked with other celebrated artists including John Hiatt, Lou Pallo (Les Paul), Ron Blair and Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), and Jim Keltner (Bob Dylan). He has also shared the stage with legendary performers such as Stevie Nicks, Foo Fighters, Eddie Vedder and Roger McGuinn.
Thistle teased that more new music is on the way, so keep your eyes and ears out for it.
