Manchester alt rock band Jack Hyphen has released their most recent single, “Happiness”, a feel-good indie track with a deeper twist.

With its upbeat guitars and groovy drums, “Happiness” has a bright sound that brings a sense of optimism to the track, turning into an instant mood booster – on the surface. Influenced by classic alt rock bands like Bombay Bicycle Club and Bloc Party, Jack Hyphen creates an almost ethereal sound at times; the element of “happiness” is brought to life in the music, with a distinctly uplifting vibe.

Despite its joyful facade, “Happiness” takes a closer look into what’s expected from us as individuals to achieve the emotion, as if it was a goal to be reached. With wit and cynicism, Jack Hyphen dives into the frustration and disappointment that comes from following a predetermined set of steps, only to feel vacant and out of touch instead. The words stand in stark contrast with the seemingly “happy” vibe, allowing the message to smoothly come through, and igniting a deeper conversation.
