J Duran - "Sweet Tooth"

Nashville-based indie-alternative artist J Duran has unveiled his latest single, “Sweet Tooth,” produced by Brad Shultz, guitarist of Cage the Elephant.

Written in roughly 20 minutes, “Sweet Tooth” begins with a playful, rhythmic disco-esque beat that is evident throughout much of the track. The song seamlessly embraces the indie-alternative and rock sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. As a child, Duran was immersed in old-school country, Motown tunes and the new-wave music scene. That influence is incorporated into the essence of “Sweet Tooth.”

Drawing inspiration from artists such as The Grateful Dead, Talking Heads and Herbie Handcock, Duran says he wanted the song to convey a sense of “doom and gloom wearing a coat of optimism.” Midway through the track, an electric guitar solo interrupts Duran’s vocals and injects a hyperactive contemplation into it. “Sweet Tooth” captures a wide range of emotions, ranging from frustration and sarcasm to choreomania and spiteful hope.

“Sweet Tooth” sets the stage for his debut album, Introspect, set to be released later this year through Gold’n Retriever Entertainment. His debut intends to combine timeless, catchy melodies and an indie sound, offering a glimpse into his distinctive musical style.
