Whether you know them as Hank Compton and Aksel Coe or as “that highly infectious alt-rock duo” or as self-proclaimed “slow core boyband,” Homes at Night makes music that does wonders. They successfully mix genres and generations, giving fans music that can excite and inspire anyone, anywhere, at any time. This sound was featured on last year’s debut EP, If You Were A Stranger, which was a blend of new styles and old sensibilities, pushing them even further as a duo. With their new single “Texaco,” Homes at Night showcase their ability to deliver catchy and sincere tracks, setting them up for another dynamic year.
On “Texaco,” Homes at Night try to move past old and tired tendencies. As we hear lines like, “We’re not kids anymore / You’ve got a job, I’ve got somebody at home / We’re not kids anymore / It was cute back then, but this shit got old / We got cold,” we sense an understanding to move on and grow up. This tension can also be felt through the music, as we get fierce guitar strums, intricate rhythms, and moody melodies. You can check it out below.
About “Texaco,” Hank explains,
“I wrote this song from the perspective of an unhealthy relationship that emphasized my addiction, which is somewhat biographical. The production needed to sound like a release or detachment, hence the dramatic, massive final chorus. I really hope the song can give people comfort and support that they’re not alone in the process of cutting off the habits inhibiting their lives.”
