After joining the group for their recent performance at Great South Bay Music Festival, iconic rock band Taking Back Sunday announced that they’d be reuniting with former guitarist Fred Mascherino for their upcoming summer tour. Current guitarist John Nolan shared he’d be taking a short break from touring to dedicate time to his family and focus on their well-being.
Taking Back Sunday broke the news in a heartfelt message posted on their YouTube channel earlier this morning. Nolan expresses his gratitude to his bandmates for understanding and says,
“The band has always prioritized family, but finding the right balance between being at home and being on tour is always difficult. Coming into this summer I realized I needed to dedicate time to the well-being of my family. Adam and Shaun understood, and we worked together to find a way for the tour to move forward without me. My first thought was to reach out to Fred and luckily that made sense to everyone, and he was happy to participate.”
Mascherino was a full-time member of Taking Back Sunday from 2004-2007, in which he wrote and recorded with the band on their monumental Where You Want to Be and Louder Now albums. Since his departure, he has gone on to work on a wide array of musical projects and even established his own record label, Heading East Records. The group shared the stage for the first time in 15 years at their 2024 holiday show and is now gearing up to reunite once again. Mascherino shares,
“Playing with Taking Back Sunday again was something I’d been wanting for a while, but it feels surreal now that it’s happening. For me, it’s a story about healing. We were young back then and I needed to learn things about myself. I reconnected with Adam a little while ago and was just trying to rebuild the friendship. That makes this bigger for me than just being on the stage. That said, I’ve always been grateful these songs have endured, and I’m excited to play and sing them with everyone this summer.”
Taking Back Sunday will be hitting the road this summer for a co-headlining run with Coheed and Cambria. The tour kicks off on August 16th in St. Louis, MO and will make its way through major cities across the country, including Chicago, Nashville, Los Angeles and more.
