Christian Hayes wonders what could have been on “Caroline, Oh Caroline”

Date:

Rising folk-pop artist Christian Hayes has done much reflecting this summer, and he invited us to join him in his reveries. He took a moment to appreciate what he has on “Something to Lose,” and he tapped into a newfound respect for love on “Good As It Gets.” When you listen to Christian’s songs, you can’t help but be a part of the moment, immersed in the experiences that he sings about. Whether he is finding meaning through his songs or helping others find their own meaning, he does so in a way that is expressive and timeless. Take his latest single, “Caroline, Oh Caroline,” for example.

On “Caroline, Oh Caroline,” Christian looks back on his youth, focusing on a memory he wishes he could live through again. Written with James Maddocks (Morgan Wallen, Post Malone) and producer Brett Truitt (Alex Warren, Bayker Blankenship), the track exudes a nostalgic country-rock vibe, with catchy guitar lines and bittersweet lyrics. With warm vocals, Christian sings, “I’d do it all again just to see you smile / Let me just pretend that we’d be good for a while / Give me one more chance to convince you before goodbye / What could’ve been in another life / Caroline, oh Caroline.” Even though he wonders what could have been, he ultimately chooses to let go.

Reflecting on the single, Christian shares,

“‘Caroline, Oh Caroline’ is a song about reminiscing. It talks on being okay—and content—with any outcome. It captures a moment you’d live all over again, all the while knowing how it ends. It’s the kind of song that begs for open windows and old memories.”

“Caroline, Oh Caroline” is out now via Capitol Records. You can listen to it here.
