With each new release, Carry the Day only get stronger. The high-spirited alt-rock band always delivers songs and projects that put their influences on full display, ranging from pop to nu-metal to punk. They are all about exploring the genres that move them, but they also bring their own unique style to the mix. The result is a sound that is solely their own, a sound that has only progressed over the years. If you compare who they were on 2019’s Perspectives, for instance, to recent singles like “Funeral Gray,” you can tell that they are building, growing, and thriving. This year alone, Carry the Day watched as the video for their 2021 single “Backup Plan” reached 1.2M views on YouTube and found that their overall streams on Spotify hit 2.1M. These numbers can only get higher, and maybe their new single “Start Over Again” will push them into new territory.
Produced by Matt Dennis (Nothing More, Alien Weaponry), “Start Over Again” tells a story about falling down, getting back up, and finding the strength to start over. Guided by intriguing guitar-driven melodies, lead vocalist Christopher Huynh sings, “Wearing my shame as I bleed for nothing / Fell into an emptiness so cold / I saw reflections of who I could be / What will it take to make me whole?” It all comes out in the anthemic, rage-infused choruses, where Christopher sings with his aching vocals, “Watch me break the cycle / And start over again.”
In the music video below, Carry the Day keep it simple. We watch as the band performs the song live in a single room. The only pop of color found is from the orange light on the wall behind them. It illuminates their silhouettes, delivering very clean and artsy shots of the band. We also get close-ups of each member, along with featured scenes of Christopher as he sings his heart out.
