Carin León and Kacey Musgraves flirt in single “Lost In Translation”

Date:

Country heavy-hitters Carin León and Kacey Musgraves have come together to release the catchy and flirtatious single titled “Lost In Translation.” An homage to classic Mexican country music, the duet sees the two fall in love just for the night.

Coming off two wins at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in February, León’s latest single offers a much more relaxed pace than his previous ones, but picks up in the Spanish verses as he declares that he’s “robarte un pedacito de corazón.” The contrast in melodies between Musgraves and León highlights the conversational style of the song. While Musgraves follows the guitars, León follows the percussion, which subtly lets the contrast blend well against the instrumentation. However, in the last verse the singers start to switch with each line, so León slows down. At any other part of the song this would have struck out, but as it’s the end, the slower melodies give us a nice and easy send-off.

The lyrics are playful and flirtatious, with Musgraves offering “maybe we should talk with our hands?” in the song’s opening. In León’s verses, he doesn’t shy away from intention with the lines such as “esta noche me duermo casado just for tonight” and knowing “Lo que tú necesitas.” Yet, the no-strings-attached condition of this one-night stand are repeated as the song closes off with León repeating, “Y no te quiero.”

“Lost In Translation” is an unexpected, fun and coy song from two of the biggest names in country right now and is sure to become an earworm for anyone who listens.
