Briston Maroney chases twilight and breaks free on his latest single “Monday”

Date:

Knoxville-based singer Briston Maroney is a rising star in the alt-pop scene, with four EPs and two studio albums under his belt, released through Atlantic Records. Following the success of his latest studio album, ULTRAPURE (2023), Maroney is continuing to embrace a carefree vibe with his latest single, “Monday.

According to Maroney, “Monday” marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, following the singles, “I Told You So” and “Skydiver.” The song, which feels like a sister single to Maroney’s October 2022 release “Oregon,” sees Maroney breaking away from restraints, living in the moment and chasing his dreams. He explores themes of freedom and adventure, singing, “There’s no trying to hide / There’s a fever in your eyes / When we race through the night time / We were born to chase the twilight / Mother will be fine.” With lyrical imagery of gas stations, smoke and skylines, he evokes the thrill of pursuing fleeting but magical moments.

The accompanying music video, directed and edited by Neil Shukla, feels like early 2000s nostalgia, appearing to be shot on film. The fact-paced, fleeting nature of the song mirrors Maroney’s themes of escaping the mundane and the uncertainty of the future. Despite the risks and unknowns, he remains determined to make the most of every moment (“I can’t waste another second wasting / I’ll be back before the sunrise”). Trying to run against the clock, Maroney aims to leave his mark.

Maroney is set to continue his 2024 fall headline tour, kicking off on Friday, Sept. 13, at the Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village, Colorado, and will also perform at the 3rd annual Paradise Festival in November.
