Who doesn’t like a song that starts with a whistle? It’s a proven formula for so many hits, including Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger,” or that one song by Juelz Santana that was literally titled “There It Go (The Whistle Song).” In that spirit, Brenden David’s “On My Mind” is no exception.
Born in Florida and raised in Tennessee, Brenden David has drawn from many different musical styles including folk, alternative, singer/songwriter, and pop. With a catchy chorus that features biting lyrics (“I know that other guys can’t seem to move on/ But since we said goodbye/ I’m glad that you’re not on my mind”) and a subtle acoustic guitar, this is a song that feels both modern and old school. It can fit on Spotify playlists as well as it would have back on the radio in the early aughts between a Jason Mraz tune and the latest from Rob Thomas.
Of “On My Mind,” David says:
“This song is classic pop! It features a catchy whistle hook, an upbeat 80’s sound, and sarcastically sad lyrics. I wrote and produced this song in my little spare bedroom studio. All parts were recorded here except for live drums, which were recorded at a local studio here in Chattanooga, TN.”
