With her eclectic sound spanning from 80s synth-pop to current pop artists, this song is destined to be a hit. ” Prettier” starts with a fairy-tale-like vibe before coming in with an electric guitar sweeping you off your feet and hitting you with an emotional kick about exploring self-hatred, objectification, and body image. Bexx explains,
“I wrote ‘Prettier’ from a place of deep sadness and deep anger. It is my furious rebuttal to everyone who has made me feel less than because of the way I look – and writing it was deeply cathartic. I want prettier to be an anthem for anyone who has had enough of feeling like they don’t measure up to society’s narrow standards of beauty.”
This song has hints of punk and rock but still sticks to her alt-pop sound. Bexx pulls at your heartstrings with lines that every girl, young or old can relate to: “Don’t tell me I need to be prettier/ Cause I’ve covered up my mirrors /And I’m sick of finding things to fix / Don’t tell me I need to be someone else. ”
