We all have that one ex. The kind of person who feels like the one that got away when they slip through our fingers. Grammy Award nominee and rising singer-songwriter Benson Boone faces this bittersweet reality on his latest single “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else,” where he is forced to apologize to his current lover because he’s still drawn to a past he no longer has.

Caught between unresolved feelings and regret, Boone runs into an old flame by chance while waiting for his current partner at a diner. He sings, “I’m sorry I’m here for someone else / I wish that I could stay / And talk at the bar all by ourselves / But I’m here for someone else.”

The American Idol alum finds that love isn’t so easy to fall out of, marking the beginning of a new era following the release of his debut album, Fireworks & Rollerblades, and his performance of his hit single “Beautiful Things” at the 67th Grammy Awards. He struggles with loyalty to his current relationship and the undeniable pull of his past love. And by the end of the song, he can’t deny his feelings anymore — but against all odds, he chooses to stay.

Known for his soaring vocals, Boone’s new single is a fast-paced anthem in which he is forced to move on and come to terms with the fact that it’s okay to let go. While his sophomore record has yet to be announced, Boone is teasing “more new music on the way,” with his Instagram bio hinting, “Album 2…?”

  1. Agree. The line “When she finally walks into the restaurant Hate to say it, but I knew it I was already gone” suggests that.

  2. Katie you are so right. He cuts the date short and runs for the kitchen doors to find his ex. who works at the restaurant.
