Previously known as Annika Grace, poet and singer-songwriter Anni just released her latest track, “Judson Ave”. Creator of the Venice Beach house concert series titled Saturdays at Seven, Anni is looking to explore vulnerable, raw, and even ugly sides of music. This new side to her sound comes from taking time to explore authenticity through poetry and music.
About “Judson Ave”, Anni said:
“This song was inspired by my childhood piano that my mom gifted me. She passed away a few years ago and I always wonder if she can hear the piano from heaven when I play now. The piano used to sit in our living room in my childhood home and I was inspired by the idea that a home could still hold the memories of my family and growing up. The song encompasses the idea that time moves on and now the same piano sits in my apartment living room. Now as an adult, it makes me appreciate childhood and all the memories so much more.”
The track is an ode to growing up, but still holding onto past people, things, and places that form who you are today. Anni uses a slow, steady beat and dramatic piano chords under her strong voice as she tells the story of growing up. She sings “I’m still playing the same piano / In a different living room”, highlighting how as she grows and changes, some things will always remain constant.
Anni’s introspective lyrics draw the listener into feelings of nostalgia, making “Judson Ave” a piece many can relate to and inviting the listener to cherish what they have as the world grows and changes around them.
