A Place To Bury Strangers is making a bold return this fall with their latest single, “Disgust,” which is the lead single from their upcoming seventh album, Synthesizer, set for release on Oct. 4 via Dedstrange. The New York-based band, now composed of Oliver Ackermann (guitar/vocals, bass), John Fedowitz (bass guitar) and Sandra Fedowitz (drums), has been known for being one of the loudest bands in the state — and their newest album Synthesizer captures this essence in its entirety.
To the trio, Synthesizer isn’t just the album’s title but also a physical entity. The title doubles as a functional circuit board and synth for fans to explore, blending the worlds of music and hands-on invention. The writing sessions for the album began in the band’s Queens studio after their previous release, See Through You (2022). Following the departure of other band members, Ackerman found a new creative partnership. With this fresh energy and collaboration, A Place To Bury Strangers found their inventive sound on Synthesizer, described as romantic, colorful and of course, loud.
“It’s pretty messed up, chaotic. But it feels really human,” Ackermann said, who demonstrates how to use the circuit board and synth embedded in the album cover. In a music era dominated by AI and pre-programmed precision, the band remains committed to a raw, DIY ethos.
Synthesizer is one of A Place To Bury Strangers’ most live-sounding albums yet, capturing the raw energy of their performances. Ackermann added, “We’re artists. Going to shows and bringing that imperfect and beautiful DIY ethos is important.”
The album promises to deliver a wild, loud collection of songs that pushes the band’s inventive sound.
