“Welcome Home” : Coheed and Cambria light up Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville

Date:

On September 3, 2025 fans from all over lined the streets of Nashville ready for arguably one of the most iconic shows at Ascend Amphitheater to date. Although the weather had other plans as the show was delayed almost two hours due to thunderstorms, the crowd was soaked and ready to rock.

Starting out the night with a shortened set was St. Louis based band, Foxing. Their textured instrumentation and soaring vocals cast a spell across the amphitheater lawn, pulling the audience into their world of fragile beauty and explosive climaxes. Halfway through their set they thanked Coheed and Taking Back Sunday for allowing them the opportunity to still perform due to the weather delays. They also mentioned that both bands were so incredibly kind and have made this tour an incredible journey for them. After the four song set, up next was Taking Back Sunday.

By the time Taking Back Sunday stormed the stage, the amphitheater was buzzing with anticipation. Frontman Adam Lazzara wasted no time, swinging his mic with trademark bravado and charging into “A Decade Under the Influence.” The band leaned heavily into their early-2000s catalog, fueling a nostalgia trip for fans who grew up on Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want to Be. Yet it wasn’t just about the past as newer cuts stood strong among the classics, proving the band is still writing songs that resonate. Between tracks, Lazzara’s playful banter with the crowd turned the amphitheater into one big backyard party. By the time “MakeDamnSure” closed their set, hundreds of voices were screaming in unison.

Now the moment we have all been waiting for, Coheed and Cambria takes the stage. As the lights dim and we hear the first notes of “Goodbye, Sunshine” fans across the venue go wild.  “A Favor House Atlantic” and “The Suffering” had the entire amphitheater on its feet, and hundreds singing along. Sanchez’s vocals were in excellent form, clear, commanding, and surprisingly tender in quieter moments. The band also performed a surprise cover of The Killers “Mr. Brightside” which seemed to bring fans into one big sing-a-long.  If there was any doubt left about the band’s performance, “Welcome Home” obliterated it. The riff shook the amphitheater to its core, and Sanchez’s double-neck guitar solo was nothing short of thunderous. It was the exclamation point everyone had been waiting for, and it sent fans spilling into the streets with ringing ears and wide smiles.

What made the night special wasn’t just the individual performances, but the shared lineage between the bands. Foxing’s artistry, Taking Back Sunday’s emo anthems, and Coheed’s prog-rock theatrics all spoke to different corners of the alternative world, yet together they created a seamless celebration of what it means to feel deeply through music. It’s safe to say as  the final notes echoed across the Cumberland River, fans left Ascend Amphitheater with hoarse voices and full hearts. To see tour dates near you click here.
