New Jersey punks The Front Bottoms played a jubilant set at Saturn in Birmingham, AL as a part of their tour promoting their new EP Ann. The sold out crowd was filled with fans young and old with all enthusiastically shouting along with frontman Brian Sella. After taking a deep dive through 2014’s Rose EP, the band blasted through the entirety of Going Grey, with songs like “Vacation Town” and “You Used to Say (Holy Fuck)” inspiring a communal singalong experience. This show exhibited just how much The Front Bottoms have changed as a live act over their career; the thrashy acoustic duo heard on Talon of the Hawk is nowhere to be found. Instead, Brian Sella and co. have turned into a festival-ready band who has rounded their edges (while sharpening their hit-writing) and become a formidable, joyous live force.
