Enter Shikari brings an electric performance to Prague’s ROXY club

Date:

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, British electronicore legends Enter Shikari brought their high-energy show to Prague’s ROXY club, selling the venue out. American heavy dark pop act DeathbyRomy came along for support.

DeathbyRomy played 2024’s Rock For People festival, so fans were almost as excited to see Romy again as they were to see Enter Shikari. Romy and her band members came out swinging with “SEE U ON THE OTHER SIDE” from her newest album HOLLYWOOD FOREVER. Their energy was fierce and in-your-face right from the start, with guitarist Jayden Hammer’s blonde hair whipping around in a cloud of fury.

The band’s goth aesthetic elevated the atmosphere they created, and the women leading the band (Romy, Hammer, and bassist Suki Wong) incorporated choreography into their performance without missing a beat — we rarely see this kind of synchronization in rock bands and we were impressed by how natural it felt for them.

Not only was the band perfectly in sync during these moments, but Romy also interacted with Hammer in ways that felt almost theatrical. This wasn’t just a concert; it truly felt like theatre. Whether one band member was lying on the ground with another playing over them or Romy was pushing Hammer away in a moment of passion, their physical storytelling was just as enjoyable as the music.

And don’t let the band’s horror-inspired look fool you. Whenever a fan screamed “I love you,” they always smiled and returned the sentiment, spontaneously interacting with the crowd whenever they were given the chance.

The set was a good mix of tracks from HOLLYWOOD FOREVER as well as some beloved hits from her 2022 album Entropy. Romy closed out her set with “Pray to Me.”

The moments leading up to Enter Shikari’s performance were an excited frenzy, with lights dimming and songs changing at any moment seemingly to confuse the eagerly waiting fans. The room was packed in even more, with people almost spilling out the doors of even the venue’s balcony.

Enter Shikari took the stage opening with “Bloodshot” from their latest album A Kiss for the Whole World, before launching right into “{ The Dreamer’s Hotel }.”

Frontman Rou Reynolds was light on his feet from the beginning, jumping around the stage and putting his all into the performance. Guitarist Rory Clelow and bassist Chris Batten joined him as much as they could, amping the crowd up even more. Each band member also took a moment to bring drummer Rob Rolfe into the fold, accompanying him on his platform as they played.

The first few songs had already inspired some crowdsurfing, and Reynolds further encouraged fans to climb onto each other’s shoulders. When a fan threw a shirt up to Reynolds on stage, he caught it and promptly joked that it was sweaty and gross before playfully tossing it back into the crowd.

Highlights of the first half of the set included their 2017 hit “Live Outside,” which came complete with a dazzlingly colorful light show, and a throwback to 2009 with “Juggernauts,” and the band never seemed to lose steam.

Reynolds also charmed the crowd by acknowledging the national holiday. Oct. 28 happens to be Czechoslovak Independence Day, marking the day in 1918 when the country split from the Austro-Hungarian empire. Not only did he wish fans well on this special holiday, but he also showed off his Czech language skills — he learned how to say a fairly long phrase in Czech thanking the crowd for being there. It was so long and so well done, in fact, that we couldn’t even catch the whole thing.

We then got a glimpse of their debut album, Take to the Skies (2007), with “Mothership,” a treat for fans who had been with them since day one. And trust us: there were plenty. When they asked fans to make some noise if they’d seen Enter Shikari live before, the room was louder than ever. Only a few raised their hands to say it was their first show. We were particularly impressed by the fan we were standing next to at this point; she turned to her boyfriend laughing and said it was her seventh Enter Shikari show.

A shortened version of 2009’s “Havoc B” led into one of the night’s highlights, “Sorry, You’re Not a Winner.” Every pair of hands in the room was clapping, and the band even incorporated the Pendulum remix of the song for double the fun with this staple track. There had already been a sizable mosh pit going, but this song inspired a second surge of people making their way to the front.

They closed with “The Last Garrison” before heading off stage, only to return for an encore consisting of “…Meltdown” and “A Kiss for the Whole World x.”

Enter Shikari’s performance in Prague was absolutely electric, from the remixes they incorporated and the eclectic light show to the precision and energy of the band members themselves. It’s no secret why fans keep coming back to their shows even though they haven’t released a new album since 2023. Their setlist is made for every kind of listener, whether you’ve found them recently or you’re still rocking out to their 2000s and 2010s material. They know how to keep you up on your feet, and they know how to win a crowd over.

After what we saw on Tuesday night, we wouldn’t be surprised if the girl we overheard in the crowd came back next time for her eighth Enter Shikari show — and we recommend that you join her.

Enter Shikari will continue their European tour through Nov. 11, when they close things out for the year in Paris. Tickets to the remaining dates are available here
