Circle Jerks bring old school punk to St. Petersburg

Date:

Last Friday brought about a revival to the punk of yesteryear when pioneers of the genre Circle Jerks stopped at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, FL. And it was a wild night. Detroit natives Negative Approach started the night. Unfortunately, their set was cut short when an audience member had a medical emergency. Don’t worry; they are fine! Richmond, VA thrash metal favorites Municipal Waste took to the stage next. Lead singer Tony Foresta provided one of the most memorable moments of the evening when he described his memory of his first concert, which was the Beastie Boys with Henry Rollins opening for them. He pointed to an audience member who looked to be about twelve and said, “We are your Henry Rollins!” before revealing that moments like that are what keep him going.

But Circle Jerks were what the people came to see. Keith Morris, who founded the band along with guitarist Chris Hetson, back in 1979 still embodies the “I’m going to tell you what’s fucked up with the world” mentality that originated the punk scene.

The guys will be out on tour again starting in February all through the US before heading to Europe in July.
