When you combine the power of social media with pure talent, you get your next favorite artist. In 2023, Dom Innarella went viral on TikTok for his rendition of “Where’s My Dad” from the Brick Children’s Community Theatre performance of Finding Nemo Jr.
With over 20M views, it put a spotlight on the young singer and attracted a strong fanbase. He kept fans entertained with viral covers of songs by artists like Benson Boone and Billie Eilish, which led to co-signs from the likes of Justin Bieber and Timbaland.
Earlier this year, Dom went on Hunna G Beats and teased what would be his debut single, “Bout Me.” After its official release, “Bout Me” went viral (naturally) and attracted the attention of Republic Records. Recently, Dom followed up “Bout Me” with “Jersey In July,” his first release through the label. The song is well on its way to becoming a summer smash, as its sun-kissed melodies and flirty lyrics are undeniably captivating and completely irresistible. We caught up with Dom on his first week of summer vacation to chat about “Jersey In July” and “Bout Me,” along with his plans to prove himself in the business.
Hey Dom, thanks for taking the time out to answer these. How’s your summer going?
My summer is going great—amazing, actually. I just performed at Timberlake Camp, so it’s already shaping up to be one of my best summers ever, and it’s only the first week! I’m super excited for the rest of it. I’m heading to Florida today for a little family vacation and some downtime, then I fly straight to L.A. to write, make fire music, and do all that good artist stuff. I’ll be back home in Jersey on August 1st to chill and keep writing.
You just released the perfect song of the summer, “Jersey in July.” How did this song come together for you?
It started when my dad was putting me on to Craig David’s “7 Days,” which has that smooth R&B feel and Spanish guitar vibe. I texted my writers and producers saying, ‘Let’s make something with Spanish guitar that’s wavy, R&B, and totally Jersey.’ We recorded it in April, and that’s how “Jersey in July” was born.
What’s your favorite part of the track?
The Spanish guitar, hands down. I’ve always loved that sound—it’s so wavy. Honestly, I love every piece of the song, but if I have to pick, that guitar wins.
The music video is definitely what I could picture in my head when listening to the song. We see you hanging out with friends around town, riding bikes, getting pizza… Was this the original concept for the video or did you have anything else planned?
That was the plan from the jump. We shot in Asbury Park, super-Jersey vibes. I put together a whole Pinterest board with “Bronx Tale” inspiration and vintage-camera aesthetics, and we stuck to it.
Is there one summer in particular that you remember the most? For good or bad reasons?
Absolutely—the summer I was about seven or eight and went to Miami with my family. It was my first time on a plane, and an all-around amazing trip. Miami’s wild and hot, though; these days I’d probably choose Orlando. But that summer was unforgettable.
“Jersey in July” follows “Bout Me,” which came out earlier this year. What was it like to watch it get so popular and go viral?
Seeing “Bout Me” blow up made my heart warm. I love that song, and watching people react to it was everything. It also reminded me to keep building so I’m not just a one-hit moment, I’m in this for longevity.
Was the process of creating “Bout Me” different from “Jersey in July” in any way?
Definitely. “Bout Me” was written for a content show called Hunna G Beats—more freestyle vibes. Same writers helped on “Jersey in July,” but the purpose was different, so the energy in the studio was different. When the Hunna G Beats clip took off, we thought, Let’s release the whole song, and it worked.
I read that you are working on a debut album. What can you tell fans about that so far?
Just know it’s straight fire—about seven tracks. We’ve poured so much thought into every song. It’s versatile: some pop, some doo-wop, some R&B. I want to show the world I’m ready and share the music I love.
Now that we’re getting into the second half of 2025, what has been a highlight of the first half of the year for you so far? What are you looking forward to most in the second half?
My highlights so far have been releasing music, learning the industry, writing, and performing— I had my first performance literally last night. For the rest of the year, I’m looking forward to more shows, growing my audience, expanding the catalog, and proving I’ve got what it takes.
Thank you so much for your time, Dom.
Do you have any final comments or anything else to share?
