Estella Dawn releases vulnerable pop track “Julian”

Date:

In her latest song “Julian,” released on Sept. 27, Estella Dawn navigates the uncertainties of love and being afraid to open up in a relationship. With powerful vocals and a modern indie sound, Estella Dawn explores the complexities of human connection over a haunting melody.

The song starts off slow as Estella Dawn sings emotionally about feeling the need to hide parts of herself from someone new. Her first two verses demonstrate that when she sings lyrics like “And I wanna take pictures of us / Scared that you’ll see me in focus” and “I pull lies around my waist / Tight like a corset.” With creative lyrics full of raw emotion, listeners can feel the singer-songwriter’s fear and doubt around the phase of a relationship when you’re wondering if this person is worth revealing yourself to.

The tempo speeds up and layers are added to the beat in her chorus to create an upbeat melody. Estella Dawn uses her powerful voice to belt out “Can’t trust your intention / So I question shit when it feels right” to show listeners why she’s hesitant to show her true colors: The person that she’s with isn’t reciprocating the love and attention that will earn her honesty. Throughout the rest of the song, she shows off her vocals in a way that makes you fall in love with her voice as she continues to wonder if this person feels right for her.

In her lyric video, Estella Dawn is shown singing while driving into a city called “Julian.” Watching the video heightens the experience of listening to her latest song. Even if the New Zealand artist is afraid to be vulnerable in her relationship in “Julian,” she definitely isn’t afraid to be vulnerable with her fans. Estella Dawn’s music is full of honest and playful lyrics along with great melodies that fans can bop to.
