Ed Sheeran’s newest single “Azizam” is a cross-cultural love song

Date:

Ed Sheeran has released his long-awaited newest single, “Azizam.” The song teases at a new sound for the superstar with the bright and high-tempo melody. Fans have anxiously been waiting for new music and he did not disappoint. The turn from his usual sound and the infusion of different cultural aspects make the song one that’s fresh amongst his discography.

The word “azizam” is a Persian term of endearment. The English singer-songwriter was inspired by Persian and Irish musical influences and blended it all right into a pop song. The very techno/electronic-driven song is new territory for Sheeran as he’s leaning away from his usually acoustic-heavy sounds. The highlight of the single is that new sound and the beat. Its infectious beat immediately has you dancing around singing back the highlighted lyric “Azizam.”

Lyrically, the song is not as complex as some of his other projects, but it equally as heartfelt. There’s still a strong emotion behind the words, and the urgency in the lyrics is apparent behind every repetition. While lyrically it’s more minimalist, Sheeran still manages to create a lush soundscape, getting the image of an adrenaline-filled love across to the listener. Overall, it’s the perfect summer song with the upbeat composition and easy-to-learn lyrics.

With “Azizam,” Ed Sheeran has proven that there’s something truly special in incorporating cultural expansion within music and blending musical genres. This introduction to his new musical era is sure to have fans incredibly excited to see what’s to come as he’s proven he can do a lot more than just a good love song.
