Alternative rock duo Comastatic has recently released their latest single, “ZORRO”, a powerful exploration of inner turmoil and the masks we wear to get through it.

“ZORRO” kicks off with a vertiginous drop, as electronic elements blend in with a rumbling rhythm section to create a sense of chaos and anxiety. The hectic pace of the track stands in contrast with the softer, more melodic vocals; the balance allows for the message to come through loud and clear, without competing with the turbulent energy the music evokes.

In its need for self-expression and lust for freedom, “ZORRO” uses the mysterious swordsman as a clear metaphor: despite having to put on a mask, the goal is to continue to break through and carve out our own paths. “Leave my mark on the wall, burn it down like a real life Zorro,” a direct reference to the fictional character’s signature, serves as direct analogy to the emotions that run through the lyrics, a struggle to find a sense of self and leave the past behind. “ZORRO” is like an erupting volcano, as we are pushed to our limits until it’s time to break free and create a new story for ourselves, despite any mistakes made along the way.
