Since forming in 2014, Tampa trio Nevertel — Jeremy Michael (Vocalist), Raul Lopez (Vocalist / Guitarist / Producer), and Alec Davis (Guitarist) — have been carving their place in modern rock by fusing the weight of nu-metal and hard rock with alternative rock, hip-hop, and subtle textures of electronic music. Over the past decade they’ve built a catalog of two full-lengths (Living Fiction, 2016; EVERYTHING IN MY MIND, 2021), an EP (Deep Down, 2018), and a string of singles, all of which were self-released and self-produced. That independence sharpened their sound and built a deeper connection with the members. Now, with their first release under Epitaph Records, Nevertel are finally starting again on a larger stage with a bigger audience.

The title isn’t just symbolic as Start Again is about “learning to start over, learning to roll with the punches, and make something new out of the ashes, like a phoenix rising” Jeremy Michael explains. After years of self-sufficiency, from writing to digital marketing, signing with Epitaph felt like a rebirth of sorts. The band has already racked up over 124 million streams and earned radio traction on SiriusXM Octane, but this album marks their biggest leap forward yet with their biggest collaborations to date.

Truly highlighting why Nevertel has thrived independently for so long, Start Again underscores the band’s self-sufficiency through its credits with all three members contributed to writing the record in full (with the lone exception of “Good Intentions”): Lopez produced all 13 tracks, tying together the record’s spectrum of moods, Michael not only delivers searing lead vocals but also helped in engineering 11 of the 13 tracks, and Davis anchors the sound with riffs and textures providing backbone to the album.

Though their vision drives the album, Nevertel call Start Again the product of a village and a true collaboration project with collaborations from Dave Cowell (Sleep Theory), Dan Lancaster (Bring Me The Horizon, Blink-182), Gianni Taylor (Bring Me The Horizon, One OK Rock), Ted Jensen (Green Day), Zakk Cervini (BABYMETAL, Sleep Theory), and James Paul Wisner (Paramore, Dashboard Confessional).

Lyrically, Start Again moves through the tension between breaking down and starting anew. The opening prelude aptly titled “Start Again (prelude)” sets the tone with its aching line, “Am I broken ’cause I can’t start again?”

From there, the album dives into cycles of regret as shown in “Good Intentions”, toxic dynamics like in “Criminal”, and heartbreak and self-doubt shared by lyrics “So where do I go now / When every road’s closed down?” in “Miles Apart”.

Tracks like “Some Things” and “Playground” explore closure and reclaiming autonomy, while “Starting Over” delivers the album’s defining moment: burning it all down just to rise again. These themes echo earlier milestones like “Sacrifice” and “Losing Faith,” songs that first captured Nevertel’s blend of vulnerability and defiance.

By the closer, “Ever After,” Nevertel doesn’t promise closure, but instead they find the strength in letting go singing “to close another chapter, no happy ever after.”

Beyond  lyrically, the cinematic scope of starting over and starting again stretches across the tracks. “Ever After,” written to a Batman trailer, carries a cinematic energy, while “ICON” scratches their long-standing itch to write something that feels like it belongs in a video game soundtrack, pounding and immersive, a crossover of Breaking Benjamin and Halo.

In a more personal turn, “Did It All” strips everything back to just the three of them in Lopez’s studio, a reminder of where the band began and how far they’ve come. That raw, unfiltered chemistry mirrors the very idea of starting again. Meanwhile, “Break the Silence,” born during writing sessions in Memphis, evolved into a standout collaboration with their close friends Sleep Theory, showing how renewal also comes through connection and community.

Start Again feels like the perfect launchpad for a band that has been hard at work for the last decade. A record that embodies persistence, collaboration, and reinvention, it’s clear that Nevertel’s foundation and new found partnership built them an album that is raw, polished, and ready to be shared with the world. The album is a sound of a band refusing to give up and proving that starting again can mean starting bigger, better, and stronger.

Start Again is available on all major streaming platforms and available for physical purchase on the band’s online store.

Bringing Start Again to the stage, Nevertel faces their busiest fall yet, first joining Sleep Theory’s Afterglow Pt II tour, then headlining across the EU/UK with Rivals, before returning home to support Memphis May Fire.
