After the handful of singles already receiving nothing but love, Corbyn Besson has just released his debut EP, HEAD FIRST. After hearing what he’s capable of, fans had no doubt that this project would be amazing.

Beginning his solo career two years ago, Corbyn has already had an explosive start. He has accumulated over 40 million global streams across his discography, performed his collab “No One Else” with Two Friends at their Lollapalooza Aftershow, and has accumulated a star-studded collaboration list: NOTD, Armani White, Jeremih, Two Friends, and TWICE’s TZUYU.

The EP opens with “Kiss”, an upbeat song capturing the urgency of needing that connection before it slips away. He’s letting the physical closeness communicate the unsaid emotions: “No, it don’t take more than a moment on your / Lips / When they’re pressed on mine, only you and I / Exist / Every day and every night / No, I’ve never had a vice like this”.

“Tied Up” definitely leans into his more flirtatious side, capturing the present-tense rush of attraction. It also reinforces the EP’s overall message: acting on instinct instead of overthinking it. The following “Summer” helps reflect on that moment once it has been lived through. The sequencing shifts the energy from immediate desire to warm nostalgia. “Blink” then snaps you right back into that direct, instant chemistry. Corbyn and TZUYU convey that lightning type of spark you can’t predict or control.

“Ruin Me”, track number 5, is Corbyn then embracing the type of love that is all-consuming, worth every risk: “Put me through the fire, baby, make my heart melt / I want you to ruin me, baby / This the type of love that make me lie to myself / Till we get to heaven, baby, put me through hell”. The lyrics of intensity and vulnerability are celebrated and inviting, expressing a relationship that is both transformative and full of life. It’s raw, the declaration of passion not going unnoticed.

The EP ends with “Hypnotized”, giving a musical style similar to SZA of R&B mixed with pop. Corbyn is closing the project with this sense of surrendering himself to the romantic pull, entirely in a trance: “She lie to me, but for some reason I can trust her / Toxic, that’s how I like it, I proceed with no precaution / Can tell she catching feelings by the way she talking / She keep her distance just to keep me in her pocket”. Acting as the final chapter, it feels like it ties the EP’s emotional journey together.

HEAD FIRST is a bold yet intimate statement, with Corbyn showing who he is now as a solo artist after Why Don’t We ended. The six-track EP is a collection of songs that is authentic to this new musical version of himself. Ultimately, it captures both the vulnerable and fun chapters of his growth, throwing himself into this new era with newfound confidence and freedom.

HEAD FIRST, Corbyn Besson’s debut EP, is available now on all streaming platforms.
