The Dare has returned to take over the dance music scene with his new EP, Freakquencies: Volume 1. The DJ that calls Manhattan home is back to show the world that club beats are here to stay.

Born Harrison Smith, The Dare has arguably been dubbed one of the new poster children for the underground New York City club scene, and for good reason. After the release of his debut single “Girls” in 2022, he started gaining buzz in the music world. The hit song then made it onto his critically acclaimed debut album, What’s Wrong With New York?, and from there he was blasted to stardom. Since then, he has performed on some of music’s biggest stages: Coachella, Primavera Sound, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and more.

His latest project, Freakquencies: Volume 1, is a four-track nostalgic trip to the 2000s small club scene. Even though it’s short, this EP packs quite the punch. The opening track, “Kick,” holds an acid groove that his fans know him well for. In the backing vocals, he can be heard yelling over the music, “Realize your purpose here on the planet / It takes five seconds to realize that it’s time to move / It’s time to get down with it.” He captures the essence of being in a sweaty, bright, energetic club with the DJ shouting into the microphone as everyone is busy in their own worlds on the dance floor.

The Dare continues to hold that vibe perfectly throughout the rest of the tracks, each of them having their own individual beat. While they don’t melt from one track into the next seamlessly (such as Billie Eilish’s “NDA” into “Therefore I Am”), they can all still be played back-to-back with no doubt that they belong in that order. The EP is also versatile enough that it can be put on shuffle and the four songs still go hand-in-hand.

The Dare will be taking his Freakquencies show across multiple cities in the US and Canada this year, with tickets available to purchase here. Vinyls for his new EP are available to purchase on his official store.

Freakquencies: Volume 1 is available now on all streaming platforms.
