Adanna Duru’s “The Way” is a soulful tapestry of self-love

Adanna Duru - "The Way"

Rising pop-R&B artist Adanna Duru is forging a path for self-discovery and empowerment through her soulful tracks. Before she gained notoriety on TikTok and appearing on reality television series like “The Voice” and “American Idol,” she struggled with her identity as the only Nigerian girl in Orange County, Cali., where she was raised.

Duru has now released the second part of her EP, NAPPY HOUR II, on Feb. 9, featuring the single “The Way,” which beautifully celebrates uniqueness and love in this acoustic, chill track. The track opens with rhythmic guitar-picking as Duru’s voice carries throughout the verses, whisking listeners away from this ethereal but dream-like ambiance.

Like her iconic track “if i was a boy 😉” from NAPPY HOUR, Duru’s “The Way” was produced by Khris Riddick Tynes and Rob Bisel.

“I’m thrilled that I get to release songs about joy, love, and happiness,” she shares. “But more importantly, I get to release songs about a Black girl doing whatever she wants. I’m always experimenting with different genres and trying to show all the different sides of myself. I want to celebrate being weird. And I want little Black girls to feel beautiful and accepted and seen.”

“The Way” shows us that Duru can have fun while celebrating herself at her most vulnerable and honest through her contemporary R&B lens that breathes life into her musical artistry.
