5 Artists You Can’t Miss at This Year’s Governor’s Ball Music Festival

Date:

New York City’s unofficial kickoff to summer is almost here: The Governors Ball Music Festival returns for its 14th year, taking over Flushing Meadows Corona Park from June 6–8. With over 60 artists performing across three stages – including headliners Tyler, The Creator, Olivia Rodrigo, and Hozier – this year’s lineup promises an unforgettable weekend. Beyond the big names, here are five more artists we’re especially excited to see.

Strawberry Launch
When They’re Playing: Friday at 12:15-12:45PM on The Grove stage
Recommended Tracks: “Sweet Basil”, “Ready Yet”, “Fork”
Similar Artists:
 Alvvays, Snail Mail, The Beths

Strawberry Launch is a Brooklyn-based indie pop band turning heads with synth-laced melodies, charming stage presence, and anthems about cosmic heartbreak and self-discovery. A staple of NYC’s underground circuit, their live shows feel like a glittery dream—upbeat, emotionally charged, and undeniably fun. The band’s tight musicianship and vibrant chemistry have earned them glowing reviews for bringing a polished yet playful energy to the stage. If you’re into catchy hooks, vintage synths, and dancing in your feelings, this is one set you won’t want to miss.

Matt Champion
When They’re Playing: Friday at 2:15-3:00PM on The Grove stage
Recommended Tracks: “Dogfish”, “Slug”, “Aren’t You Excited”
Similar Artists:
Dijon, Ryan Beatty, The Japanese House

Matt Champion is a Texas-born rapper, singer, and producer who first rose to fame as a core member of BROCKHAMPTON, the genre-bending collective known for chaotic, cathartic live shows. Champion’s solo work leans into softer, more introspective territory—fusing dreamy alt-R&B, lo-fi beats, and raw lyricism. Onstage, his performances are magnetic in a quieter way, offering an intimate contrast to his high-energy roots. Early solo sets have been praised for their vulnerability and atmosphere, making him one of the most intriguing acts to catch live as he steps into his own spotlight.

The Lemon Twigs
When They’re Playing: Saturday at 2:15-3:00PM on The Grove stage
Recommended Tracks: “My Golden Years”, “Any Time Of Day”, “As Long As We’re Together”
Similar Artists:
Geese, MJ Lenderman, Foxygen

The Lemon Twigs, Long Island brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario, deliver a flamboyant, time-warped rock experience that feels like stepping into a glam-tinged Broadway show. Their live sets have been hailed as theatrical and unpredictable, complete with outfit changes, soaring harmonies, and guitar solos that would make Queen proud. Critics and fans alike rave about their ability to channel the spirit of the ‘60s and ‘70s without slipping into imitation. For festivalgoers craving something eccentric, musical, and electric, The Lemon Twigs are a can’t-miss act.

Artemas
When They’re Playing: Saturday at 2:30-3:15PM on the Kiehl’s stage
Recommended Tracks: “i like the way you kiss me”, “southbound”, “test drive”
Similar Artists:
Nessa Barrett, The Neighbourhood, Chase Atlantic

Artemas is a UK-based alt-pop artist who’s quickly gaining momentum with his viral blend of melancholic lyrics, sticky melodies, and grungy bedroom-pop aesthetics. With tracks like “i like the way you kiss me” exploding on streaming platforms, Artemas has built a reputation for turning heartbreak into catharsis—and translating that emotional intensity into his live sets. Fans and reviewers alike have praised his performances for their raw charm and disarming vulnerability, often calling his shows a Gen Z therapy session wrapped in a mosh pit. If you want to catch an artist on the brink of breakout, Artemas is your guy.

Nourished by Time
When They’re Playing: Sunday at 1:00-1:30PM on the GOVBALLNYC stage
Recommended Tracks: “Hell of a Ride”, “Daddy”, “Rain Water Promise”
Similar Artists:
Blood Orange, Toro y Moi, Steve Lacy

Nourished by Time, the moniker of Baltimore’s Marcus Brown, is redefining what futuristic soul can sound—and feel—like. His music blends lo-fi synths, funk, post-punk, and R&B into something completely his own, with lyrics that reflect on capitalism, love, and self-worth through a deeply personal lens. His 2023 album Erotic Probiotic 2 drew critical acclaim, and his live performances have been described as hypnotic and boundary-pushing. Whether he’s crooning or dancing through distortion, Nourished by Time brings a cerebral, genreless energy to the stage that feels both intimate and revolutionary. Don’t be surprised if you leave his set a little changed.
