One of the most highly anticipated albums of 2025 has arrived with Sleep Token’s Even In Arcadia. Since the overnight sensation of Take Me Back To Eden, the band has taken the world by storm with a sold out show at the O2 Arena and topping the charts with their three latest singles, “Emergence,” “Caramel,” and “Damocles.” It is clear that the abrupt rise to fame has brought more pressure, but Even In Arcadia has reached above the high expectations of fans, ushering in a new era for the band.
The album opens with “Look To Windward,” a nearly eight minute long track that sets the scene for the first act. It builds tension with a cinematic rise that leads in a whisper of the repeated line, “Will you halt this eclipse in me?” It is followed with a sudden heaviness that is akin to “Take Me Back To Eden,” their 2023 title track. Sleep Token has always been the kind of band to keep listeners on their toes with haunting synths and equally chilling lyrics, and “Look To Windward” contains both, perfectly setting up the album.
Following up the epic opener is “Emergence” and later, “Caramel,” two of the three singles released earlier this year. Both “Caramel” and “Past Self” are highly introspective tracks in which Vessel looks deep and seems to mourn who he used to be, with lyrics, “And I don’t even know who I used to be / But nothing is the same / Some things have to change.” Down the line is “Damocles” which follows the pattern of looking deep at how fame has changed the lead singer, offering a look into how Vessel feels about the band’s rise to stardom.
“Even In Arcadia” is the title track that opens with the same haunting chimes that have been teased since the first single was dropped. It would have made for a better opener than to be dropped in the middle of the album, but at the same time feels like we’re entering into the second act. Where the first half of the album delves into the past, “Even In Arcadia” sets up in the future in a truly standout track of the album.
The second to last track is “Gethsemane,” titled after the biblical garden where Jesus spent his last night alone and in anguish awaiting his fate. It is no doubt a new sound for Sleep Token, and one of the best songs on the album. While it is not the heaviest song on the album, it is certainly a more sorrowful one that discusses unrequited love with the lyrics, “I was tryin’ my best, and that’s the thing I tell the mirror / I was in love with the thought that we were in love with each other” and “No one’s gonna save me from my memories / Nothing to lose, but I would’ve given anythin’ / To get closer to you and all your enemies.”
Closing out the album is “Infinite Baths,” the longest track at just over eight minutes. It starts ethereal as the tension builds with the swell and rise of the piano, then switches into a heavy, punishing track at the drop of the pin. Similar to the opening song, “Infinite Baths” fades to black and leaves the listener eager for more.
Even In Arcadia truly offers something for everyone. It is an intense, introspective, and truly haunting collection that will leave fans and skeptics alike ready for another listen.
