Los Angeles-based and “The Night We Met” singer Lord Huron, a.ka. Ben Schneider, has announced his upcoming album, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1. The album, which is due out July 18, will also feature the new single, “Looking Back.”
“Looking Back” is the album’s opener, according to a release, with the song showcasing Schneider’s guitar, harp and cello.

About the latest single, “Looking Back,” Schneider said:
“The weight of your past can distort your present and future, the way massive celestial objects warp the fabric of the universe. Like a bowling ball on a trampoline. This song wonders if it’s possible to let go, or if looking back is a fundamental law of existence.”
Schneider began teasing the forthcoming project over the past couple of months, with songs like “Who Laughs Most” and “Nothing I Need.”
The album was written and co-produced by frontman Schneider. Alongside Schneider are his band members Tom Renaud, Mark Barry and Miguel Briseño, and a host of collaborators, including actress Kristen Stewart (on “Who Laughs Last”) and Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino (on “Fire Eternal”).
The title The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 references a machine seen in the album’s cover art.
Schneider poses the questions regarding the title:
“What if you could choose your fate like choosing a song on a jukebox? What if your finger slipped and you got the B-side instead? What if you misunderstood the meaning of the dang song to begin with?”
