5 must see artists at Just Like Heaven in Pasadena

Date:

With Goldenvoice’s Just Like Heaven coming soon, the one-day music festival is filled to the brim with must-see names. The performing set of artists includes a couple of well-known names and rising stars. Even if you’re there for the headliners, enjoy the back-to-back performances from noon to the late evening from the talented musicians below.

Peter Bjorn and the John
Recommended Songs: “Nothing to Worry About,” “Second Chance,” “Breakin’ Point”

Best known for their 2006 breakout single, “Young Folks,” the Swedish indie pop-rock band have expanded their discography since then. Though they’ve been around for nearly two decades, they’ve rarely made any group touring appearances together. Their tracks include easy listening tunes with catchy, memorable lyrics and their live performances promise to deliver to wind you up and get you going for the rest of the day.

Toro y Moi
Recommended Songs:
“Freelance,” “Mirage,” “Rose Quartz”

Bay Area native Chaz Bear, better known as Toro y Moi, led the wave of synth-pop hits in the 2010s. Now, he’ll be bringing those funky tunes to the Pasadena crowd. Blending different elements within the chillwave genre, Toro y Moi’s music brings out the inherent desire to dance like no ones watching. Perhaps you’ll revisit his music while you’re driving into the sunset this summer.

Perfume Genius
Recommended Songs:
“It’s a Mirror,” “Slip Away,” “Valley”

Iowan singer, Perfume Genius, takes an emotional dive into important, but difficult, social subjects in his music. Like a gentle hug after a rough day, his personal lyrics envelopes the listener into a safe, warm embrace. Paired with delicate but confident vocals, you might be moved to tears during his set.

Courtney Barnett
Recommended Songs: “Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go To The Party,” “Small Poppies,” “Depreston”

Courtney will for sure turn heads with her left-handed guitar when she arrives on stage. As a pure fingerstyle guitar player, the sound of her performance alone creates a distinct playing style that can’t be imitated. Supposedly, she didn’t like the sound of a pick on an acoustic guitar, and that led her to continue playing with her fingers only. The Australian musician’s wit and cleverness is aptly delivered in her introspective songs, so once she’s hooked you on a tune, you’ll stay for her story.

TV On the Radio
Recommended Songs: “Wolf Like Me,” “Satellite,” “Happy Idiot”

Brooklyn-based rock band, TVOTR, have been in the game since 2001 and their songs still sound as fresh as the day they debuted. You may have seen founding member, Tunde Adebimpe, in the humble 2024 film, Twisters, or even as Mr. Cobbwell in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now you watch him jam with his fellow bandmates tear up the floor with avant-garde rock.

Just Like Heaven brings together well-known music veterans, rising talent, and recently reformed/returned groups all in a one-day event. Whether you want to go all out or unwind amongst a group of calm, likeminded individuals, why not do it while discovering a new band?
