Dorio’s new single “Stereo World” doesn’t just sit at the heart of their latest album—it feels like the thread pulling the entire project together. With layered textures, cinematic references, and a back-and-forth between softness and brightness, the track stands as a fully realized statement on connection, solitude, and collaboration.
“A lot of these songs started on guitar, and specifically started on Saturdays,” explains Chad, who co-writes and performs alongside his partner Rachel. “That’s the only day of the week I was home alone during the past year, because Rachel started working a new job. By myself, I got into watching all the movies by certain directors, like Sofia Coppola, then Ryusuke Hamaguchi and Francis Ford Coppola. I really liked entering their worlds and seeing the different forms it could take. I see the songs on the album like a director’s different movies, like a new version of a similar mood. And then ‘Stereo World’ combines all those elements from across the album, with handclaps and breakbeat-inspired drums and saxophone and electric piano and everything.”
You can hear that spirit of collage in the track’s design: vintage textures layered with modern sensibilities, handclaps echoing through dreamy keys, and a warm saxophone line by David Alvarez (a longtime Dorio collaborator). CJ Eliasen, whose dynamic drumming appears across the album, delivers a subtle yet propulsive groove that anchors the entire arrangement.
“This song really ended up being a kind of theme song for the album, with all the colors softly coming together,” says Rachel. “I love how Chad found this softer way of singing that carries throughout. And then my vocal parts are kind of brighter, trying to, like, pull him out of it or relate to him. It was also special that I got to record on viola, which I played growing up in orchestra.”
“Stereo World” is a perfect example of Dorio’s instinct to build songs that feel both intimate and cinematic. It reflects the album’s larger themes—quiet connection, creative isolation, the subtle beauty of small moments—while standing confidently on its own. If the record is a patchwork of moods, memories, and movie scenes, then “Stereo World” is the wide shot that pulls everything into view.
Dorio’s Super Love 3 arrives on the heels of their 2024 double single The Drive Collection. After wrapping a national tour behind their 2023 album Strawberry Dream, the band has shared stages with acts like Video Age, Omni, Peel Dream Magazine, and Katy Kirby, further cementing their place in the indie circuit.
