Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:
——
Maren Morris, “bed no breakfast” – Produced by John Ryan and The Monsters & Strangerz, “bed no breakfast” is an ode to fleeting hook-ups and the desire to avoid the awkwardness of the morning after. It was the final song Morris wrote for the album with songwriter Delacey, inspired by a joke Morris made about her dating life. “Drunk girls don’t cry, they kick you out,” Morris shares.

——
Boy In Space, “Burning Down The House” – It features the new pop-country sound that Boy In Space has showcased on the previous tracks, placing listeners in a space filled with sweet strings and prominent guitar strums. All the while, the song plays out like a ballad, with Boy In Space trying to prevent a metaphoric fire from destroying all he has with someone. Melodically, he sings, “Baby, there’s a fire and it’s burning down the house / Would you let me in so we can try to put it out?”
– Christine Sloman
——
Lana Del Rey, “Henry, come on” – Over the last four days, “Henry, come on” has amassed over eight million Spotify listens. The single is a somber, delicate ballad that showcases Lana Del Rey’s emotional depth. Del Rey sings slowly, “You can’t chase a ghost when it’s gone / And it’s not because of you / That I turned out so dangerous.” Shimmering strings sparkle in the background while a solemn drum beat moves each note forward, creating a lonely yet beautifully elegant feel.
– Ashley Robinson
——
The Head and the Heart, “Blue Embers” – “Blue Embers” is about comparing your previous experiences and beliefs to your current ones. Through soft acoustic guitar and gentle vocals, The Head and The Heart shares how their worldview has changed as they got older. Their lyrics express hope to find better days ahead as they face different challenges on their journey of life.
– Emma Celenza
——
Finn Wolfhard, “Trailers after dark” – Compared to his first release, “Choose the latter,” this single strays from the upbeat instrumentation and vocal combination to deliver a multi-layered story of pleading for love to avoid the unbearable feeling of heartbreak. From the start, a simple, yet emotional chord progression, played by an acoustic guitar, sets the melancholy tone that carries the song to its end—with unifying drum fills, an electric guitar solo and captivating, true vocals adding rich layers along the way.
