UK Garage has made comeback after comeback with the next generation of producers capturing its highly danceable, highly malleable formulaic beats. On his latest track “You’re My One,” MarMar enlists the vocal help of Australian singer arnii to add the signature chopped-up vocal samples for the ecstatic production of a blend of electronic dance music. This is the second single off of MarMar’s forthcoming EP, and it promises to be a standout single.
The track brings emotional narrative into the punched out but dreamy production of MarMar. On the song MarMar adds,
“We decided to create this story of a girl who is kinda explaining to her friends that, after a long string of bad relationships, she’s found her ‘One.’”
Adding vocals clearly benefits the track, which could stand all on its own with its dreamy production and tide-like ebb and flow. “You’re My One” has me tapping my foot and bobbing my head to the groove, but because of its narrative it maintains a chill, almost sentimental atmosphere. The track is highly accessible and a great entry point into chill dance music, not to say there isn’t experimentation or risks taken, but the “You’re My One” pulls heavily from pop music especially on the vocal end. It’s a song that can heighten any mood—at once melancholic and energetic.
