The Legacy Arena was electrified Wednesday night as Disturbed brought their “The Sickness 25th Anniversary Tour” to town. With powerhouse supporting acts Nothing More and Daughtry, the night was a celebration of modern metal’s defining album and showcased three generations of rock evolution.
Experimental metal band Nothing More kicked off the night with explosive energy. Frontman Jonny Hawkins, shirtless and painted in tribal markings, commanded attention with his raw physicality and high powered screams. Their set opened with “House of Sand,” and from the first note, the band’s mix of industrial rhythm and emotional depth swept through the arena. Highlights included “Jenny” and “ANGEL SONG,” with a guest appearance from David Draiman, blending pounding percussion, haunting melodies, and bursts of sheer aggression. By the time Jonny and crew left the stage, the crowd was amped up and ready for the night to kick into high gear.
Following Nothing More, Daughtry took the stage to thunderous applause from the packed house. Chris Daughtry launched into “The Reckoning,” proving why his band remains a staple in the rock scene over a decade after their breakout. Chris’s vocals soared on emotional ballads like their acoustic version of “Home” while heavier tracks like “Heavy Is the Crown” and “World on Fire” cranked up the volume. Daughtry fans were treated to a stellar cover of Journey’s “Separate Ways (World’s Apart)”. Their versatile set bridged the industrial aggression of Nothing More and the metal spectacle of Disturbed, appealing to both hard rock faithful and mainstream rock listeners.
As the lights dimmed and the eerie intro of “Voices” filled the arena, archival footage from the year 2000 flashed on a giant screen—the year The Sickness dropped and changed the face of nu-metal. Frontman David Draiman emerged in prison garb, rolled out on a coffin-shaped dolly, and the crowd roared with energy. Disturbed played The Sickness front to back for the first time in their career, bringing the raw, unpolished aggression of early-2000s metal to life. “Stupify” and “Down with the Sickness” sent the crowd into a frenzy, with thousands of fists in the air and voices screaming in unison.
After a brief intermission, the band returned for a second set packed with fan favorites from across their catalog. “Ten Thousand Fists,” “Inside the Fire,” and “Indestructible” showcased their heavier side, while the haunting cover of “The Sound of Silence” created a moment of stillness. Draiman’s voice echoed throughout the arena as phone lights waved in the air. They debuted a new single, “I Will Not Break,” staying true to their melodic metal roots while introducing modern production.
The Birmingham stop on the Sickness 25th Anniversary Tour was more than a trip down memory lane—it was a thunderous reminder of Disturbed’s influence in the metal world. The massive production featured pyro, strobes, and visual effects synchronized to every pounding riff and scream. Amidst the grand stage show, there was an undeniable emotional core. Draiman frequently addressed the crowd, thanking fans for sticking with them “through every album, every tour, and every breakdown,” adding, “You gave this record life—and tonight, we honor that.”
With powerhouse performances from Nothing More and Daughtry and a career-defining set from Disturbed, the night was a celebration of rock’s past, present, and future. Birmingham witnessed a generational metal moment that felt both nostalgic and timeless.
