Ally Salort casts herself in a potential “Horror Movie” on new single

Date:

For some, love is a beautiful dream. A warm feeling. A romantic comedy, if you will. For others, it is a nightmare. A cold, empty sensation. A horror movie that never ends… It is so interesting that love can be scary and uncomfortable for some, especially when it is supposed to be the antithesis of fear. But opening yourself up, embracing someone for who they are—these can be challenging and downright terrifying tasks.

With “Horror Movie,” Ally Salort casts herself in a love story that potentially contains a tragic ending. Yet, she owns the role anyway. The music establishes a pleasant setting, the bright but chill guitar and relaxed rhythms making us feel safe. Still, Ally gives us a bittersweet narrative through the lyrics, singing, “I’m damned if I do, and I’m damned if I don’t / I’m yours even if you’re not mine / You’re the door I was told I should always keep closed / But I had to give it a try.” She then goes on to conclude, “Love’s a horror movie, and I’m never the lead / No, I’m always the first one to die.” Even if things don’t go her way, she has to take a chance.

Telling us more about “Horror Movie,” Ally shares,

“‘Horror Movie’ is one big metaphor for going back to a person that will hurt you every time. Opening the door (the relationship) that everyone around you is screaming for you to not open; very similar to the girl that dies first in every scary film. I had the lines, ‘I’m damned if I do, but I’ll be more damned if I don’t,’ and from there, we wrote the chorus. Can’t wait for people to hear the whole thing!
