New Jersey four-piece Flycatcher return with a nostalgia-tinged, emotionally charged new single, “Dissolve.” The new track is produced by Grammy-nominated engineer Will Yip, the engineer behind seminal punk, hardcore, and post rock bands including Title Fight, Arctic Monkeys, and Turnover. Flycatcher continue to impress with their underground but always pioneering fresh rock sound.
“Dissolve” is seemingly the beginning of a new era for Flycatcher, one that anticipates a new album indicative of rising stardom. The second of two aesthetically corresponding singles, “Dissolve” sees the band looking back on their journey so far. Since Flycatcher’s conception in 2017, they’ve gone from playing basement shows to gradually working their way onto touring stages around the country.
Listening to “Dissolve” I can’t help but think back to days of early 2000s summers and riding in the back of the family minivan listening to the CDs of bands like The Fray, Matchbox Twenty, and Counting Crows. What Flycatcher is bringing here is nothing short of a masterful balance between sentimentality, emotional balance, and a driving newness to the rock genre.
Fit with driving guitars which provide the backbone to frontman Gregory Pease’s grungy vocals and emotionally heavy lyrics, the ascent into the chorus of the track is absolutely anthemic. Giving “Dissolve” a listen will have the chorus in your head on repeat: “But if this feeling’s nothing / Why won’t it, why won’t it stop / I hear a constant humming / It dissolves, it dissolves me on the spot.”
