The Criticals have mixed, mastered, and released the first song they ever wrote together. “Good Lookin” is out now on all streaming platforms. It is the fourth single to be released off of their debut record and it was produced by Jonathan Gilmore at Echo Zoo Studios. The band wrote the song in 2019 in a little shed in Savannah, Tennessee. Parker Forbes elaborates more on the inspiration for the song:
“I had this wild tomato sauce dream of walking into a disco/art gallery in San Francisco being handed all these letters by a person in hilariously tall pink stiletto heels. I just started recalling my dream on paper as best as I could the next morning to overtop a jam we had voice memoed a week or so prior. Then I tried to come up with the most ridiculous, sad, cynical thought I could to tie the dream together. What you got, I used to have. I used to be good lookin“
The Nashville-based rock band was formed by Parker Forbes and Cole Shugart in 2018, drawing inspiration from The Stone Roses, Janes Addiction, and The Doors. Before joining forces, Forbes and Shugart played in a number of bands in the Nashville DIY scene. We’re excited about what’s soon to come for The Criticals.
