Eveline experiments with lust in latest single “HEARTCUTS”

Date:

Berlin’s Eveline has already made a name for herself with supports for Allie X and Billie Ellish and is set to release a new EP this year. Letting us have a taste of what’s to come, Eveline has released “HEARTCUTS,” an upbeat but tense song about freedom and desire.

A fuzzed-out guitar riff gives the song a lush and full texture, supported by a tight kick and snare drum. A rhythm guitar in the verses creates just enough tension to be let out by the lead guitar as the chorus starts. In the second verse, a second lead guitar comes in early to add another layer to the song. The bass line is the underlying powerhouse. It’s a thick sound that stays for the entirety of the song and grounds the darker tonality. While the instrumentation offers little variety or contrast in energy, the moderate pace is easy to be hypnotized by.

The lyrics exude passion and hunger with a long rhyming scheme that only builds on the tension of the instrumentation. The chorus’s “chase me like a lion” encapsulates the alluring tone of the song with Eveline imagining “I’m silk on your spine.” The song lacks a pre-chorus or lyrical bridge, but that is well hidden by the heart-like beat of the melody. Eveline’s nasal vocal delivery further adds to the dark tone of the song.

Eveline is set to release another EP this year and let’s hope that this developed sound she’s created in “HEARTCUTS” is an insight into what’s to come. You can listen to “HEARTCUTS” now along with Eveline’s accompanying single, “rock n roll healing.”
