The Driver Era brought the party to the Yuengling Center in Tampa, FL, on March 8th as part of their eagerly awaited Obsession Tour. The dynamic duo, composed of Ross Lynch and his brother Rocky, had the crowd dancing all night long. Their set list featured various tracks from their latest album, Obsession, as well as hit singles that had fans going wild.
Kicking off the night was Thomas Day — a singer-songwriter from Nashville, TN, who began playing piano at just five years old. The talented artist participated in Season 15 of America’s Got Talent in 2020 but had to withdraw from the quarterfinals after contracting COVID-19. However, his rise to popularity came through TikTok, where he posted covers and original songs, ultimately landing a record deal with Arista Records.
Day’s passion for singing and performing was palpable throughout his entire set, evident in every note he hit and every move he made — particularly during his performance of “Viscous” and “Masochist” from his 2023 album, Love Me for Another Day. His energy was electric as he moved across the stage and leaped into the air throughout his entire set. Needless to say, his exhilarating stage presence paired with the singer’s jaw-dropping vocals left the crowd primed and ready for The Driver Era.
Shortly after Day’s set, a large white curtain was put up in front of the stage. The crowd, buzzing with anticipation, erupted in cheers as The Driver Era’s opening track of “Touch” began to play as a pulsing white light illuminated the curtain, revealing the duo’s silhouettes as they played just behind it. Just seconds into “You Keep Me Up at Night”, the curtain finally dropped, revealing the Lynch brothers and sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Green lights flooded the stage as their unreleased track “The Weekend” began to play. Ross then picked up a handheld camcorder, capturing both the crowd and himself as he moved across the stage—his footage streaming live on the large screen behind them. The grainy visuals from the camcorder only added to the nostalgic, retro vibe of the show which perfectly aligns with the theme of their latest album.
As the song came to an end, the lights dimmed, and an illuminated payphone appeared to the right of the stage just as the sound of a telephone ringing echoed through the arena. Ross walked over and picked up the phone—seconds later, a cascade of lights illuminated him as “Same Old Story” began to play.
The set continued to build in energy, with Ross fully embracing his role as the ultimate showman. It wasn’t long before he began stripping off layers of clothing—at one point cheekily admitting, “You know, sometimes these shows just get hot,” sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Throughout the night, The Driver Era had fans dancing their hearts out to songs like “I Can’t Believe She Got Away” and “Malibu”. Each track was paired with vibrant, retro-inspired visuals displayed on the big screen—everything from a galactic light show and neon grids during “Don’t Take the Night” to pixelated pink and blue glitch effects for “Turn the Music Up”. Live footage of the band performing on stage was seamlessly woven into these dynamic visuals, with Ross occasionally capturing moments himself using the same camcorder from earlier in the show.
The duo wrapped up the night with a high-energy finale, delivering fan-favorites like “Rumors” and “Get Off My Phone” before closing with their hit song, “A Kiss.” During the final track, Ross—now shirtless and sporting a fluffy pink cowboy hat—bounced across the stage, electrifying the crowd and reaching out to fans at the barricade. Topping off this romantic finale, a kiss cam appeared on the big screen, capturing couples in the audience—drawing cheers when one couple shared a sweet kiss, perfectly sealing the moment.
Needless to say, The Driver Era delivered an unforgettable show filled with nostalgic, retro-themed props, stunning visuals, and a set-list that perfectly captured the essence of their latest album. With Obsession set to release this April, fans who attended will no doubt be counting down the days, eager to relive the magic of the night.
