Regina Sayles releases soulful indie folk single “One Big Lie”

Date:

Indie singer-songwriter Regina Sayles premieres her powerful new single, “One Big Lie,” today. With a gritty, roots-driven sound, the track delves into the conflict between societal expectations and personal authenticity, delivering a bold statement on identity and self-liberation.

One Big Lie is the story of a woman caught between living as her authentic self and playing house in a patriarchal society. I’m choosing to release this on International Women’s Day because I believe women deserve to have their stories told—especially those who have been made to feel ashamed,” Sayles explains.

The song was produced at 25th Street Recording in Oakland, CA, capturing an organic, deeply emotional sound that underscores its poignant message. Sayles collaborated with acclaimed producer Julie Wolf (Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls), whom she first met while performing on the 2019 Melissa Etheridge Cruise.

“Working with a queer producer on this song felt both crucial and special,” Sayles shares. “Julie understood the heart of this song from the very beginning. We wanted to create something that felt both intimate and anthemic—a song that could be someone’s moment of clarity, their push toward freedom.”

The single arrives on the heels of Sayles’ October 2024 release, For This Love, a rousing queer anthem that debuted on National Coming Out Day. Produced by Wolf, the track celebrated LGBTQ+ love and resilience, earning widespread acclaim from media outlets nationwide. With “One Big Lie,” Sayles continues her streak of releasing deeply personal, socially resonant music that challenges the status quo while affirming self-worth and belonging.

Originally from Ohio and now based in East Stroudsburg, PA, Sayles has built a reputation as a magnetic performer and gifted songwriter. Blending folk, rock, and Americana influences, she delivers soul-stirring performances at over 100 live shows annually, captivating audiences at intimate venues and music festivals alike. Her powerful storytelling and compelling voice have led her to share the stage with folk luminaries such as Tret Fure and Ani DiFranco.

Sayles’ journey in music includes two solo EPs—It’s Home and The Ann Street Session—as well as co-founding the folk-pop duo Porter & Sayles. The duo opened for legendary acts like Pat Benatar and The Steve Miller Band before Sayles returned to focus on her solo career. In 2023, she won the Emerging Artist Competition at the National Women’s Music Festival, a testament to her rising influence in the indie music world.

Beyond her artistry, Sayles is a passionate advocate for women in music and LGBTQ+ representation. She leads songwriting and music production workshops, using her platform to uplift and inspire emerging artists. Her work continues to carve space for marginalized voices in the industry, making One Big Lie not just a song, but a movement toward self-acceptance and empowerment.

With the release of “One Big Lie” Regina Sayles once again proves that she is an artist with both a message and a mission. As she continues to make waves in the indie music scene, her voice—both literal and figurative—remains a vital force for change.
